This oil switch can be used to alert of a drop in oil pressure. It will replace without nany modification required the original oil switch. Unlike the original oil switch which lights up at 7lbs, this one will light up at 20lbs. In fact, when the original switch lights up (7lbs), it is often already too late for your engine. With this low pressure oil switch (20lbs), when the light flashes, there is often still time to avoid engine failure.
